C201 | Hands–on SSL/TLS Deployment for Db2 LUW Clients and Servers
Sunday June 8, 2025 9:00am - 12:30pm EDT
This half–day hands–on workshop is designed to provide you with all the details you need to know for a successful SSL/TLS deployment for Db2 LUW and on–going certificate maintenance.  Encrypting network communications is essential in today’s security conscious world and is a complex task with many moving parts.  That complexity is confirmed by the number of cases Db2 support and development see asking for help configuring TLS.  This workshop builds on those years of experience to give you the knowledge you need to set things up correctly and securely.  The workshop will start with the very basics of asymmetric cryptography, which form the foundation of certificates and turn the discussion to trust and the role it plays.  From there, we will turn to hands on exercises configuring the Db2 server, followed by Db2 clients/drivers allowing encrypted client/server communication.  Topics such as certificate creation, keystore management, and hostname validation will be discussed and practiced.  The steps required for certificate renewal will be demonstrated.  Advanced topics such as TLS with HADR will be discussed, showing how the practiced knowledge of setting up client/server TLS will follow through to HADR.  While not necessary to attend the workshop and learn something, the hands on–portions will require you to bring your own laptop and be able to establish an SSH connection to the public IBM Cloud.

C202 | MaaS – Db2 Monitoring as a Service in AWS, Azure, GC and IBM Cloud
Sunday June 8, 2025 1:30pm - 5:00pm EDT
A cloud native resource without monitoring (or with a very complex monitoring setup) is like driving a car without a dashboard – you wouldn't know if you are speeding or low on fuel! Db2 needs a concise and simplified monitoring solution that gives a bird eye's view on the performance metrics and Db2 diagnostics. We present here a solution that is available in AWS, Azure, Google Cloud and IBM Cloud while running Db2 with a Infrastructure as a Service model.
The speaker will cover her experience of collaboration with all cloud vendors, Db2 development and customers like SAP. The session will share the findings from that reserach and development project and it is based on the cloud native monitoing solutions currently available. The solution consists of a smart combination of Db2 monitoring capabilities, Operating System scheduling and Cloud logging functionality resulting in an out–of–the–box Db2 monitoing solution.
The solution has the following features:

Displays the most important metrics (based on customer data) of a database instance namely, Bufferpool quality, Activities per second, Activity wait time and Logging performance.
Information regarding Db2 Diagnostics by providing the count of increasing errors that can be easily extended for a comprehensive diagnostic analysis.
Whether or not the database is alive.

This solution introduces the Monitoring as a Service infrastructure and ables you to build your own cloud native monitoring solution with a few fingertips.

E4 | Using db2mon and R for Deep Insights into your Database Activity
Monday June 9, 2025 3:20pm - 4:20pm EDT
Db2 offers many rich data monitoring sources to collect, but how do you decide what is important or useful to collect? This session looks at regular db2mon data collection with  a focus on extracting insights from the data, both from a single db2mon report and also from multiple data collections over time.
This session will cover many performance metrics including
– system basics – activity, utilization– bottleneck checks – waiting on disk, network, locks, etc.– bufferpool activity and effectiveness– insights over time – looking at metrics from multiple reports and charting important trends
R provides a rich and repeatable set of data manipulations that provide a flexible and composable set of tools to dig into and chart the db2mon data. This is supplemented by custom Db2–developed tooling that is now open–sourced to convert multiple db2mon reports into data files grouped by report types for deeper insights on database behaviour.

C6 | DB2 LUW PureScale – Custom Disaster Recovery Configuration
Tuesday June 10, 2025 10:20am - 11:20am EDT
IBM provides us number of solution to achieve multisite HA/DR for PureScale clusters. Those include technologies like HADR Replication for PureScale Clusters, Geographically Dispersed PureScale Clusters, GPFS replication for PureScale Clusters, Q Replication for PureScale Clusters.
In the presentation we will describe alternative approach, where replication across 2 sites is provided by Storage Array Layer, which allows us to achieve additional benefits like consistency groups going beyond single GPFS filesystem used by the PureScale, optimized network utilization where Storage Array replication happens on SAN Fiber, additional HA layer where filesystem can be cross mounted across sites which gives additional redundancy layer for storage availability.

We implement solution by deploying Synchronic Storage Replication across 2 sites, where SAN fabric provides us NSD multi path connections from each side. This way on each side we have collection of NSD disks that are local to given side, and also connection to remote NSD disks from DR side. On both sites we install standalone PureScale clusters, independent from each, therefore failure of any of those clusters does not impact other side counterpart. Having 2 clusters we designate one as primary by creating PureScale managed GPFS on top of Storage Array Layer, and on top of that create Database with its' associated paths. Next we use gpfssync capabilities to export primary GPFS filesystem , and next mount the same on DR site. This allows us to mimic primary cluster on DR site, and next attach those synchronized mount points to TSAMP cluster on secondary site. Later on, we just move application connection to DR site, which can handle further ongoing workloads.

Proposed solution is active–passive deployment, when at any given time only one cluster has connection to synchronized storage array. We achieve this by protections on each layer (NSD disks active on one site only, GPFS mounts online on one site only, database cataloging on one site only). This is crucial to ensure only one side has active writes to the cluster, so that we prevent any corruption of the data. In the presentation we provide procedures to setup such deployment, along with failover procedures where we move storage attachment from primary to secondary, and reverse. We also provide testing results where we verify solution, by forcing failover and more failure scenarios while processing application workload.

B8 | IBM Db2 for AI: Building AI Systems with Db2
Tuesday June 10, 2025 2:00pm - 3:00pm EDT
Relational databases serve as the primary data source for enterprise AI projects. Traditionally, when an AI project requires data from a relational database, engineers duplicate the data onto a separate system for model development and inference. However, this duplication process presents various challenges, including network latency, complex data governance, and the need for multiple APIs. These challenges often impede the successful implementation of AI models in production for many enterprise projects. To address these obstacles, IBM Db2 offers in–database AI capabilities and external tools. With Db2, ML practitioners can create and deploy AI models directly within their databases, significantly simplifying the complexities of AI pipelines. By leveraging in–db AI features, enterprises can safeguard sensitive data, expedite inferencing processes, and seamlessly integrate AI models with downstream business applications. In this talk, I will present the AI capabilities and tools provided by Db2. I will showcase how these capabilities can be effectively utilized in upcoming AI projects, demonstrating their potential to transform enterprise AI implementations.

F8 | Db2 Audit and Audit Exceptions with SAP
Tuesday June 10, 2025 2:00pm - 3:00pm EDT
Prior to Db2 12.1, with Db2 audit enabled for the database using the db2audit facility, an unsustainably large amount of audit data is generated which has an impact on the general database performance, I/O, and space. This is especially true for the “execute” category of Db2 auditing. Almost all the data is generated by the SAP application and the SAP database connect user. Unfortunately, the db2audit facility provides very little in terms of application context that comes from the SAP system such as SAP logon user, reports, and so on.
On the other hand, there are SAP–level auditing functions and auditing within the SAP system which can provide application–related details.
However, auditing on SAP application level has its limits: You cannot audit statements that execute directly against the database and that come from outside the local ABAP stack. With Db2 12.1, the Db2 audit facility has been enhanced to overcome the above–mentioned limitation. Generally, the database data should only be accessed in a trusted way from the SAP application through the SAP database connect user, and all other connections to the database should be audited.
As of Db2 12.1, you can exclude auditing for connections originating from the local SAP application by the SAP connect user. This reduces the amount of audit data generated by the Db2 audit facility to something more manageable.

C10 | Automatic Fast DB Size Reduction, NO DELETE, NO REORG, NO System Down
Wednesday June 11, 2025 10:20am - 11:20am EDT
Databases keep growing.  Many applications do not need the older data at certain age, which could vary from a few days to a few years.  Reducing the DB size can not only save storage, but also the backup/restore time, and more importantly improves the database performance, in most cases.  But, DELETE/REORG has always been a nightmare to DBAs, specially on large databases.  This presentation demonstrates a working system which purges the older data from DB2 databases, FAST (in seconds/minutes), with NO System down, NO DELETE/REORG involvement, which is pretty much independent of the database size.  The system also provides the option of old–data–archive before purging.

D15 | Vector Support in IBM Db2: Empowering the Development of Modern LLM Applications
Thursday June 12, 2025 10:10am - 11:10am EDT
Large language models (LLMs) have revolutionized AI by enabling a new category of applications called language apps. Enterprises have widely started using these apps for various purposes such as chatbots, document summarization, question–answering, and information retrieval. This has sparked renewed interest in AI in recent years. A crucial aspect of language apps is the generation of vector embeddings using language models. This process converts unstructured content, like PDFs, into AI–readable representations. These embeddings are used for vector similarity search, which offers more precise semantic search compared to traditional methods. However, vectors have high dimensionality, so they need cost–effective and secure storage, as well as efficient search methods. Db2 is introducing its first phase of vector support, which includes in–database vector storage, vector similarity search, and various vector operations. In this presentation, the Speaker will discuss Db2’s upcoming vector support features and how they can be utilized to develop modern LLM applications with Db2.

B203 | Hands–On: Building AI Systems with IBM Db2
Thursday June 12, 2025 1:00pm - 4:30pm EDT
IBM Db2 offers a wide range of AI features, both built–in and external tools, for creating AI systems and solutions. These include over 200 built–in AI stored procedures and tools that work seamlessly with open–source AI ecosystems. In this workshop, participants will explore Db2’s AI support and use a selection of these features to implement practical AI models. The workshop consists of two parts. In the first module, participants will learn how to develop a supervised AI model using Db2’s built–in AI stored procedures. The entire model development and usage will be done using SQL within the database. In the second module, participants will learn how to create a Python model using popular Python packages outside of the database, and then deploy that model back into a Db2 database. By the end of the workshop, participants will have gained fundamental skills and hands–on experience in utilizing these AI capabilities. They will be able to apply these skills to their future AI projects. This workshop is designed to be beginner–friendly and does not require participants to have extensive knowledge in AI. Basic SQL skills and some Python programming skills are sufficient for attending and benefiting from this workshop.
