Wednesday June 11, 2025 10:20am - 11:20am EDT
Db2 pureScale with Pacemaker on Azure is an exciting new chapter for Db2 pureScale on Cloud platforms! The Microsoft Azure platform has both TCP/IP and RDMA private network capabilities, allowing more scale–out and scale–up opportunities for the most demanding customer workloads.
This session– walks through the deployment of a Db2 pureScale cluster on the Azure platform– examines the performance for scale up and scale out– compares the TCP/IP and RDMA platforms for cost and performance– discusses the current capabilities and some of the next areas under development
This work builds on the existing Db2 pureScale on AWS knowledge and the session will provide comparisons between the two Cloud offerings

C10 | Automatic Fast DB Size Reduction, NO DELETE, NO REORG, NO System Down
Wednesday June 11, 2025 10:20am - 11:20am EDT
Databases keep growing.  Many applications do not need the older data at certain age, which could vary from a few days to a few years.  Reducing the DB size can not only save storage, but also the backup/restore time, and more importantly improves the database performance, in most cases.  But, DELETE/REORG has always been a nightmare to DBAs, specially on large databases.  This presentation demonstrates a working system which purges the older data from DB2 databases, FAST (in seconds/minutes), with NO System down, NO DELETE/REORG involvement, which is pretty much independent of the database size.  The system also provides the option of old–data–archive before purging.

F10 | Experiences with BLU in a Banking Environment
Wednesday June 11, 2025 10:20am - 11:20am EDT
The increased regulatory requirements following the banking crisis in 2007 required Finanz Informatik (the IT service provider of the Sparkassen–Finanzgruppe which contains all 353 German savings banks) to make some changes to its data warehouses:In addition to being able to generate reports for any point in time in the past, it was also necessary to support the requirement for ad–hoc reports. Finanz Informatik decided to address these challenges by using Db2 on AIX with BLU Acceleration and bitemporal tables. This presentation will discuss the experiences and lessons learned which Finanz Informatik gained during this project with these technologies.

B13 | Real Life Access Plan Tuning – 2025 Edition
Wednesday June 11, 2025 4:30pm - 5:30pm EDT
Optimal access plans are critical for query performance, and it is the Db2 optimizer's job to choose the best one. The optimizer is very sophisticated and considers many factors while costing an access plan, but sometimes it makes mistakes, and you need to fix it quickly. This session will show you how to apply access plan tuning techniques based on queries from real Db2 customer systems. This 2025 edition of the session will cover brand new examples compared to the 2024 edition. A variety of query types will be covered, including OLTP and analytics, running on single or multiple data base partitions. You will also learn how to use the explain facility to understand how access plans work. Attend this session to learn some techniques to address a variety of access plan problems and to gain some insight into query optimization.

Wednesday June 11, 2025 4:30pm - 5:30pm EDT
In this presentation we will discuss what is required to build an "always on" architecture.  This is not limited to Db2 LUW, but rather spans the entire software and hardware stack.  Systems are only as reliable as thier weakest point, so how to we work around this limitation? Technology is the easiest part of an Always On architecture, so what makes it so difficult to implement?  There are many aspects that need to examined such as:
Can the "CAP" theorem be disproved?  Stop by this presentation and find out for yourself.
